Travelling by bike in Norway by Phil and Liz 2018

We had a wonderful and unforgettable bike ride.
It was fantastic to cycle through a beautiful and varied landscape and along endlessly beautiful fjords. And it was surprising that the islands above the Lofoten also have such breathtaking nature, with very few people and traffic !!
We had nice (bicycle) weather, about 15 degrees, sunny and usually little wind. In our photos you see blue skies, with white or dark clouds, luckily they didn’t rain down often. It caused the landscape to be illuminated differently in an incredibly beautiful way.

We had rain and wind for two days, but even then, the landscape remains fascinating and we enjoyed cycling.
Once we deviated from your route on one of these rainy days, mainly because of the heavy rain and wind, which caused us to suffer from the suction effect of the car traffic.
It was a nice combination of sporty and luxury: nice cycling during the day and then in the evening in a comfortable accommodation with a good and warm bed.
The distances per day were great, and with pedal assistance the height differences of the landscape and the (very) high bridges were also very good for us to cycle.
The roads are very good and clean. The entire landscape is, by the way, clean, no litter to be found.
The high bridges and the tunnels (sometimes more than 2 km. Long) were a challenge in the first instance, but that also got used to it.
It is nice that Norwegian motorists are generally courteous, they keep a lot of room when passing cyclists.
The bikes were of very good quality, very stable and pleasant to ride. It is important to use the stair support very economically because the action radius is tight.

No problem for us because it made the trip very sporty, and there was the possibility to charge the battery in every accommodation.
We found it very pleasant to occasionally stay a little longer in the same place so that we could also explore the area on foot.
The stay at the Polar Light Center was also a very pleasant stop. Although northern lights are not visible in the summer, the reading that you can reserve about the northern lights and viewing the equipment in the Polar Light Center is definitely recommended. (For info see www. Polarlightcenter, com)
We stayed there for 4 nights and during the day we made beautiful walks and had coffee in a nice coffee place on the harbor of the village of Laukvik.
The accommodations were fine to very good. We particularly liked the apartments, fish huts and the Trollenhuisje (Bleik). Also because we were able to make food ourselves, because to our taste every day eating in a restaurant is a lot of the good.

The return trip to Tromsø with the Hurtigruten was comfortable, and it is funny to sail past places where we had cycled.
At the same time, we concluded that cycling through the country gives a very different experience, which is clearly our preference.

All in all a wonderful holiday, our compliments for your perfect preparation, the reservation of accommodation and the exploration of the route.
That made it a sporting and carefree journey for us.
Thank you very much for this!
